About Us

The South Waverley Sonics started in the mid 1970s with two teams and has grown to support the community of the south-eastern suburbs and surrounding areas with around forty organised basketball teams each season.

The Sonics have both junior (under-age) and senior (open-age) teams with members ranging from 7 years old to well over fifty years old and both genders (this includes mixed, girls-only and women-only teams).

Junior teams are registered with the Greater Eastern Basketball Association Junior Saturday competition, the Nunawading Basketball Association Friday night competition and also with the Waverley Basketball Association Tuesday night girls competition.

Senior teams play midweek and on Sundays in men's, women's and mixed competitions. Teams are primarily entered in the Waverley Basketball Association but also in the Nunawading, Oakleigh and Knox Associations. Indiviual players are welcomed and can usually be slotted into existing teams, or whole teams can join together.

Junior teams play at various courts based upon the competition's fixture, usually Oakleigh, Nunawading, Ringwood, Forest Hills, Mullauna, Vermont, Brentwood, Donvale or Waverley.

Senior teams play at one venue only, that venue depending upon the competiton (but most South Waverley Sonics Senior teams play at Waverley).

Registration is set at the start of each season and the club works dilligently to ensure that both junior and senior registration fees are as low as possible.

Most junior teams train once a week at a fixed regular time, generally starting sometime between five and eight in the evening and running for one hour. The club's home court for events and training is at:
